Dear Ministry of Defence,

Today is the 60th Anniversary of the detonation of Grapple Yankee above the Southern tip of Christmas Island in 1958. The nuclear sampling aircraft that flew through the Yankee cloud landed and were marshaled to the Decontamination Pans located near the main runway. Where they were washed down to remove radioactive contamination.

In 1962, Christmas Island and all its facilities were handed over to the United States Defense Department to enable them to conduct a new series of atmospheric nuclear tests. One of the key stipulations of the transfer was that extensive work was needed to alter the drainage system from the nuclear waste runoff system. The two 'soakaway' areas that surrounded the decontamination pan, were radioactive waste water was directed, were deemed inadequate. There was no clear survey as to where the radioactive waste run off water was going.

My question is: What were the specifications and requirements given to the United States, regarding the changes that had been mandated on the Decontamination Centre, before it could be used?

Yours faithfully,

joseph pasquini

Dear Nuclear-Secretariat Team (MULTIUSER),

The response to your request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, the authority should have responded by now.
Failure to reply will only lead to a lengthy probe into the entire nuclear drainage system at Christmas Island.

Yours sincerely,

joseph pasquini
