Dear Sam

RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST RELATING TO
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

I refer to your request for information under the above Act, which was
received by the City Council on 3 November 2010.

Your request was for the following information:

- The amount spent by the council on Christmas decorations in public
spaces between 2007 and 2009.

- Any documentation produced by the council during that period in order to
guide the purchasers of illuminated decorations relating to energy
efficiency and sustainability.

Please see below the information on ward budget funded Christmas
decorations for 2008 and 2009. There is no information for 2007.

2008
Xmas tree (Tachbrook Street) -  £2,295

Christmas tree (with LED lights) and blue star lights in an existing
street Tree on Maida Hill Piazza - £3,230

2009

Xmas lights on lamp columns (purchased for reuse in future years) (Warwick
Way) - £18,475.32

Xmas tree (Tachbrook Street) - £ 2,140

Xmas tree (Queensway) - £ 2,515

Xmas lights on lamp columns (Queensway) - £6,544

Xmas lights on lamp columns (Westbourne Grove) - £9,635

Xmas lights on lamp columns (St John's Wood High Street) - £ 7,800

Xmas lights on lamp columns, Xmas tree and blue star lights in existing
tree (Maida Hill piazza) - £ 9,525

Xmas lights in existing street trees (Clifton Rd) - £
2,760

Xmas lights in existing street trees (Elgin Avenue) - £ 1,790

The City Council's Public Lighting service does not directly fund festive
lighting, however in the past the lighting service has supported these
installations with some officer time. The service has also directed the
maintenance programmes of these attachments when we have had an
understanding of their requirements. For example the lighting columns in
Oxford Street are regularly Structural Tested and the Capital Improvement
Programme in Warwick Way, Queenway and Praed Street have included festive
lighting infrastructure.

I have attached our DRAFT festive guidance document which is technically
fine however, the process and procedure is still being developed. Included
within this document is a small section on energy efficiency and
sustainability.

I trust that the above provides useful information.

Regards

Richard Clifton
