Chinese Student Enrollment Statistics in 2015/16 to 2023/24
Dear University of Manchester,
I am writing to kindly request a detailed breakdown of enrollment statistics , with a particular focus on the annual enrollment of Chinese students.
1.Enrollment data for Chinese students from the academic years 2015/2016 to 2023/2024, broken down by level of study (including undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research programs) and gender, for each academic year individually.
2.Enrollment data for Chinese students enrolled in postgraduate taught programs for the academic year 2023/24, categorized by the universities where they obtained their previous degrees.
3.Enrollment data for Chinese students enrolled in postgraduate taught programs for the academic year 2023/24, categorized by their hometowns, referring to the cities where they are originally from or where they previously resided.
Additionally, it is important to clarify that by "Chinese," we are referring to individuals holding Chinese nationality, excluding those from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
Furthermore, for request 1, I kindly request the breakdown of Chinese student enrollment numbers for each academic year, delineated by gender and level of study, including undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research programs.
Regarding requests 2 and 3, in the event that the resulting tables are extensive, it is acceptable to organize the data in descending order based on enrollment numbers and present only the top 100 universities or hometowns.
Your cooperation in providing this detailed information is greatly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
CapeBreton

2. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this information. This is
because the data is not held in an easily reportable form so we would need
to check every record individually, which would take us over the 18-hour
limit to collate.
Therefore, we feel that in order to complete this task would take in
excess of the 18 hour ‘Appropriate Limit’ (as defined in the Freedom of
Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations
2004). As a result, Section 12 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000
applies and regrettably this task cannot be undertaken at this stage. This
email serves to act as a refusal notice for this request, as per Section
17 (5) of the Act.

Dear MTRS FOIA,
Thank you for the detailed enrollment data for Chinese students. I understand the breakdown by study level, gender, and academic year.

I have a small additional request. For the third request, I would like to confirm whether the data provided for the ‘Home City’ field only includes Chinese students enrolled in postgraduate taught programs for the academic year 2023/24. If possible, could you please clarify this point?
Once again, thank you for your cooperation and assistance in providing this valuable information.
Yours sincerely,
Wei rui
