Children's Social Care - Police Protection Orders

We're waiting for Carla McDonald Heffernan to read recent responses and update the status.

Carla McDonald Heffernan

Dear Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council,

I am writing to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, for the period from 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2024:

1. How many children came into contact with children’s social care following a Police Protection Order between 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2024?

2. Of those children, how many were accommodated overnight at a police station while under a Police Protection Order?

Please note that question 1 is of primary importance, and I would appreciate a response to this even if question 2 is not possible to answer.

I work for the Centre for Justice Innovation, a not-for-profit charity, providing expertise to government departments, police, and organisations within the justice system. We work towards a fairer justice system for all. Our current focus is on child-centred policing, and specifically looking at Police Protection Orders so would be very grateful to understand the prevalence of its use.

If you require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

Carla McDonald Heffernan
