Children’s social care eligibility criteria

Under the Freedom of Information Act, I kindly request the following information on eligibility for children’s services (for the purposes of this request, ‘children’s services’ relates to those referenced in Section 17 of the Children’s Act 1989):

1) Does your local authority use eligibility criteria to determine qualification for services for children?

2) If your local authority does use eligibility criteria to determine qualification for services for children:

i. when were they implemented?
ii. were consultations held around introducing them and, if so, what was the consultation period?
iii. please provide details of the eligibility criteria

3) If your local authority does not use eligibility criteria to determine qualification for services for children, by what criteria do you determine a child’s eligibility for such services?

I am writing to respond to your freedom of information request.  This
request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Your request and our response in blue is detailed below.

In reply to this request please find attached document setting out our
criteria for accessing services, incluidng eligibility criteria. There is
further information on the Wigan website which is freely available.
 
As for consultation there would have been extensive consultation with the
community, elected members, schools and other key agencies when the
current Gateway and Social Care structures were implemented over 18 months
ago. This document is an updated version of previous eligibilty criteria
which will be scrutinised by the WSCB.

officer will review this decision. Please let me know if you would like to
arrange this.
