CS DP and FOI (Childrens Services), Derbyshire County Council

Dear Mr Southern,

Thank you for your information request dated 24^th November 2018. I can
confirm that we do hold the requested information. The request has been
considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The response to your
request is as follows:

1)    How many children with identified SEN transitioned from primary to
secondary school from September 2018?

SEN Provision Pupil Count

Education, health and care plan 227

SEN support 1031

2)    Of these pupils, how many of them received transitional support?

All pupils with an EHC plan will have been supported through the provision
identified in their EHC plans and the primary and secondary schools will
have worked together in supporting the pupils transition to their new
school. In most cases an annual review will have been held for the pupil
in YG6 and it is likely the SENCo of the 'receiving school' would have
attended, along with staff from any involved LA support service.

3)    How many teachers within your county are trained to support children
with identified SEN?

Support Service for Special Educational Needs (SSSEN) have 85 specialist
trained teachers who all have additional qualifications in SEN and support
pupils with EHCPs or at School Support. All teachers support transition
from primary to secondary school.

Sensory and Physical Support Service have:

10 Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (7.7 FTE)

8 Qualified Teachers of VI (6.1 FTE) including 1 with additional
Multi-Sensory Impairment qualification. Also 1 VI teacher in training but
not yet qualified.

8 PI teachers with additional qualifications (6.3 FTE)

Across the Inclusion Pathways Team, Tailor-Made Programmes Team and Out of
School Tuition Service there are 14.4 FTE teachers who are trained to
support children with identified SEN. All support transition, as the
services work with permanently excluded pupils; pupils at risk of
exclusion; and pupils unable to attend school due to their medical needs.
Our objective for all pupils is a successful reintegration to school.
