Children placed with foster careers / adoptive parents - how safe are these children in their care?

Dear Basildon Borough Council,
Our team has been informed that your council has approved parents for adoption that have or are criminals

We have been made aware that one of the adoptive parents had a criminal conviction and tried to kill the other parent placing the two young children at risk. This was allegedly witnessed by police officers.

1. In the last year, we would like to know how many parents (mum or dad) have had their children removed for their care due to the following.
a) Domestic violence on one occasion resulting in only verbal interaction.
b) Domestic violence on two or more occasions resulting in only verbal interaction.
c) Domestic violence on one occasion resulting in one punch or slap.
d) Domestic violence on two or more occasions resulting in one punch or slap.
e) Domestic violence on one occasion resulting in aggressive violent behaviour.

2. In the last year we would like to know how many parents had their children removed for drug related offences.

3. In the last year, we would like to know how many adoptive parents (mum or dad) have had their children removed for their care due to the following.

n) Domestic violence on two or more occasions resulting in one punch or slap.

6. In the last year we would like to know how many foster parents had their children removed for drug related offences.

7. What is your process for ensuring adoptive or foster parents are safe around children – i.e. DBS checks

8. How many DBS checks did you undertake against foster / adoptive parents (and anyone that would reasonably interact with the adopted / foster children i.e. aunts ,uncles’, brothers, sisters etc) and how many of them had:

a) Clean DBS
b) One or more convictions or cautions on their DBS
c) And out of these people that did not have clean DBS, how many went on to become foster or adoptive parents
