Thank you for your information request of 20 December 2016.  Aberdeen City
Council (ACC) has completed the necessary search for the information
requested.

 

Can you tell me  how many looked after children are in care for the years 
2015,2016  and a breakdown of numbers for each area town or city  and the
reason for the child in care.

In 2015 Aberdeen City had responsibility for 710 Looked after children.

In 2016  Aberdeen City had responsibility for 716 Looked after children.

 

The reason for children being looked after is recorded by us in a way that
associates the reason with the start of each new looked after legal
status. Some of the children who are recorded as being looked after in
2015 and 2016 have had more than one legal status recorded during the year
so have more than one reason recorded for being looked after or continuing
to be looked after.

 

The reasons recorded for children looked after in each of these years are
recorded in the table below. You will see that there are more reasons than
there are children looked after.
