Child Sexual Exploitation
Dear Staffordshire Police,
Please advise over the past 5 years (year endings to suit your convenience) how many Reports you have had of young people aged 12-16 years :
a) Missing from home for more than 24 hours
b) Missing from Local Authority Care for more than 24 hours
and
c) how many in each category were deemed to be at risk of sexual exploitation.
Finally, how many such referrals / notifications were made to you - again in each category - within:
i) Stoke-on-Trent Unitary Authority area
ii) Staffordshire Unitary Authority area
iii) other local authority areas
Do feel free to provide the details by areas in any other way which is more convenient to you.
Yours faithfully,
Philip J Measures

Dear Mr. Measures,
I am dealing with your Freedom of Information request but have a query
from the data holder and need some clarification. With regard to the last
question, "Finally, how many such referrals/notifications etc.". Are you
asking how many of the missing children are from each local authority
area?
I will place the request on hold until I receive a response.

This really is quite disgraceful - how come other Areas seem to be able to identify the extent of the problem (such as Rochdale) but Staffordshire can not?
Children in 'Care' (who are not just 'accommodated') have the State as their 'parents' - and the State has 'parental responsibility' for them so for the Police in Staffordshire / Stoke-on-Trent not to know how many children in Care have gone missing is really quite surprising and worrying - it also means that they are unable to quantify the extent of the problem.
I will be following this up with my MP to see if my concerns are valid and whether Staffordshire Police need to amend how they record information.

Do Staffordshire police EVER supply information as requested without putting obstacles and delays in the way? it's almost as though they have something to hide.

It would be useful if you broke this down into males and females.
