Chewing gum removal / street cleaning

The request was partially successful.

Dear Wakefield City Council,

We are researching the costs to your organisation for completing chewing gum removal, we have 6 simple questions.

*If you do not hold separate analytics for gum removal alone, please report on street deep cleaning/cleansing/power washing (not sweeping).

1. What primary method of removal do you use for *chewing gum removal:
a. High pressure water lancing
b. Chemicals/solvents
c. High pressure steam
d. Other (please state)

2. If you use high pressure lancing, have you suffered any damage to mortar, paving substrate or paving stones themselves during cleaning?

3. What was the cost of *chewing gum removal (whether carried out in house or contracted out) in:
a. 2015?
b. 2016?

4. Do you contract out your *chewing gum removal services or is us completed all in house?

5. If outsourced, what is the renewal date of the cleaning contract?

6. Please supply the name and contact details for the department responsible for managing this contract.

May I take this opportunity to thank you in anticipation of your assistance and cooperation with this information.

Yours faithfully,

Bronwen Smithy

Dear Ms Smithy,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Request for Information

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Please find the response to your request below.

1. What primary method of removal do you use for *chewing gum removal:
a. High pressure water lancing
b. Chemicals/solvents
c. High pressure steam
d. Other (please state)

a. High pressure water lancing

2. If you use high pressure lancing, have you suffered any damage to mortar, paving substrate or paving stones themselves during cleaning?
There can be issues with blocked pavement areas of sand/mortar mix being removed from between the bricks when scrubbing using the scrubber attachment, this is eliminated when using spot cleaning with a lance.

3. What was the cost of *chewing gum removal (whether carried out in house or contracted out) in:
a. 2015?
b. 2016?
We are unable to give a figure for chewing gum removal as the power wash team are not dedicated to this particular service and carry out numerous other duties.

4. Do you contract out your *chewing gum removal services or is us completed all in house?
No

5 If outsourced, what is the renewal date of the cleaning contract?
Not outsourced

6. Please supply the name and contact details for the department responsible for managing this contract.
Not outsourced

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries regarding this matter.

Yours sincerely
