FOI Requests,

Robert,

Our Information Department have told me that they need some clarifoication from you before they can process your request.

In particular, they need to know whether you want everyone who received chemotherapy drugs or just those who received them for cancer - some chemotherapy drugs are also used in the treatment of conditions other than cancer.

They also asked whether you wanted the number of attendances for chemotherapy or the number of people receiving this treatment - a person receiving chemotherapy may receive it on a regular basis, so would appear in our statistics several times.

If you can further clarify your request, they will be happy to process it for you and provide the information they hold.

Kind regards,

Emer

FOI Requests,

Robert,

You wrote to us on 28 January 2009 with a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Your request was given the reference number FOI/090128-1. I now enclose our response to your request. If you are dissatisfied with our response, please write to me at this address.

Kind regards,

Emer

REQUEST
Your original request was: "Could I get the number of people who received any chemotherapy in
2008."
I wrote to you to explain that chemotherapy is not just a treatment for cancer - it is also given to patients with some other conditions. I asked whether you wanted the total number of patients who had received chemotherapy, or just those who had received chemotherapy for cancer. You wrote back to say that you only wanted the number of patients who had rceived chemotherapy for cancer.

RESPONSE
The number of people who received chemotherapy treatment for cancer in 2008 was 73. Please note that the total number of patients who received chemotherapy in 2008 will be higher than this. If you have requested the same information from other trusts, they may/may not have included patients who received chemotherapy for conditions other than cancer, so the figures may not be directly comparable.
