Chemistry admission statistics

Noah Stewart made this Freedom of Information request to University of St Andrews This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for Noah Stewart to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear University of St Andrews,

I am writing to seek information regarding a breakdown of Chemistry (BSc) undergraduate admissions statistics for the past 3 years.

I ask for details of the total number of applicants, offers made (conditional and unconditional)and acceptances. Also I ask for these details to be broken down into students from Scotland, the rest of the UK and overseas students.

I would also like to see the standard GPAs, AP chemistry scores and SAT scores of American applicants.

Yours faithfully,
Noah

Freedom of Information, University of St Andrews

Dear Noah,

Many thanks for your enquiry below dated 24 November 2023 asking to be
supplied with admission data for our undergraduate Chemistry course.
Before I can proceed to process your request however under the Freedom of
Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), I would be grateful if you could
confirm your surname please. Is this as it appears in your email address?

I am asking for this point of clarification as part of the University’s
duty under Section 15 of the FOISA is to provide advice and assistance to
enquirers. Details of your name is important for two reasons:

• For a request to be valid under section 8(1)(b) of the FOISA the name
of the applicant needs to be stated in the enquiry – a request with
only the first name of an applicant in the body of an email does not
meet this requirement.
• To safeguard your own rights. In the event that the University
answered your enquiry in such a way that you were unhappy with the
response given, after an internal review, your next course of action
would be to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner. The
Commissioner however, is unable to deal with any applications where it
is found that the original enquiry was invalid as in this case.

Your request is considered to be invalid at present and will therefore be
held pending until I hear from you further.

Yours sincerely,

June
