Our Response:

Request and Response

I would like to request the following information:
1,  the number of checks undertaken by the council of outsourced
housing benefit decisions over the last two years

10% each year

2,  the proportion of checked decisions that were considered by the
council to be erroneous

2017/2018: 15.10%
2018/2019: 14.38%

3,  the efforts made by outsourced providers to prevent such errors
from recurring.

All errors are initially reviewed by the line manager of the
assessment officer concerned and then separately fed back to the
assessment officer. All corrections made will be done by the same
assessment officer. This ensures each assessor is aware of their own
errors, and the corrective action required to fix them. Regular
reviews are then made by management of types of error that occur to
help identify general training needs.

4,  the name of the outsourcing company concerned

Serco

Such checks are required under the Contracting Out (Functions of
Local Authorities: Income-Related Benefits) Order 2002, rule 4.
