Chase Farm Project Plan

Don Urquhart made this Freedom of Information request to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust

The request was successful.

From: Don Urquhart

7 November 2012

Dear Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust,

Staff at Chase Farm Hospital tell me that many wards will be
closing at the hospital by the end of November 2012 and that they,
the staff, have no idea whether they will have a job and if so,
where. Also they have no confidence that sufficient beds will be
available once the wards have been closed.

Would you kindly send me a copy of the project plan? At a minimum I
would like to know:

How many beds were there at the hospital on 31st October 2012?
How many beds will there be at the hospital on 30th November 2012?
How many beds will there be at the hospital on 31st December 2012?
How many beds will there be at the hospital on 31st January 2013?
If the number of beds at Chase Farm Hospital is to reduce between
31st October 2012 and January 31st 2013, which hospital will take
up the slack?
How many nurses were there at the hospital on 31st October 2012?
How many nurses will there be at the hospital on 30th November
2012?
How many nurses will there be at the hospital on 31st December
2012?
How many nurses will there be at the hospital on 31st January 2013?

Many Thanks

Don Urquhart

Dear Mr Urquhart

Thank you for your patience and I would like to assure you that we do endeavour to respond to requests within the 20 day deadline and current performance is around 85%. There have been particular difficulties dealing with your request as the ward closures and changes were complex and have only recently been completed and we needed to be clear about the net effect. I do regret that I will be unable to send you the response tomorrow as I need to ensure that the information I provide is completely correct. I will however forward a response to you on Monday 17th December without fail.

Yours sincerely

Dear Ms Macdonald

I sent you a Freedom of Information (FOI) request on November 7th.
It asked for 9 specific items of information.  You responded today
with a letter which provided not one of the 9 items I requested.

Instead you seem to be explaining why it is a good thing that Chase
Farm will in future have fewer beds, and that there will be fewer
nurses than planned because they are too difficult to hire, so it’s
just as well that the hospital is reducing its service level.

Also you refer to a new clinical procedure which you describe as
more efficient and that may well be the case from a financial
perspective, as it looks suspiciously like turfing patients out
before they are well enough to go home.

I am disappointed that you appear to have mulled my request over
for a considerable time before deciding to send a vague response,
rather than just providing the simple facts.

Please provide the information I have requested by Friday 21st
December.

Best Regards

Don Urquhart
