Charles Chapman - former councillor for the Ryde South ward - Full council attendance records

Mr. Figg made this Freedom of Information request to Isle of Wight Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Isle of Wight Council,

Following the local elections of 2009 Cllr. Charles Chapman was voted out of the Ryde South ward. Despite this clear rejection Charles Chapman is standing for re election to the Ryde South ward in the forthcoming election this spring - 2nd May 2013.
The councils website no longer lists his prior attendance record for meetings of the full council. Could you please supply the figures for the former Cllr Chapman's attendance record for meetings of the full council for the years 2008 and 2009.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Figg

Shorter, Penny, Isle of Wight Council

Dear Shorter, Penny,

Thank you for your swift response.

However, despite this confirmation that the former Isle of Wight council, Ryde South representative, Councillor Chapman failed to attend a greater number of full council meetings than he actually managed to attend, the 'Reason For Absence' column on this download appears to be truncated and therefore missing parts of the intended information.

i.e.
'- Work (not Co' and
'- Any other rea'

Could you please confirm what these entries are in full

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Figg

Shorter, Penny, Isle of Wight Council

Dear Mr Figg - I confirm that the information missing from the attendance list I sent to you recently is as follows:-

Reason for Absence - No reason given

Reason for Absence - Work (not Council related), Personal or Holiday

I apologise for this omission.

Charles Chapman is standing for election as an Island Independent.

With residents of RYDE SOUTH going to the polls tomorrow to elect a representative on the Isle of Wight council they would be wise to ask themselves whether they would be happy for that newly elected representative to attend fewer meetings of the full council than he/she actually attends.

As according to the Isle of Wight councils response to this request that was the situation during the period 2008/09 when Councillor Chapman was formerly the Isle of Wight council Ryde South representative.

According to the councils response there were 13 meetings of the full council, Charles Chapman attended 6 and didn't attend 7
