Dear Ms. Rettie

Thank you for your request for information received on 31 January 2013.

Your request

This request is being handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I am writing to ask you to clarify your request. The Council may
communicate with Charing Cross Hospital for a variety of reasons and it
would greatly assist us if you could specify what you are interested in.
The Council has officers working with the PCT in dual roles, officers
involved in care for members of the community with the Hospital, and the
Council would also have been in communication with the Hospital over the
proposed closure of the A&E, and there are more examples. The Council has
in the range of 4700 staff, any of which could have communicated with the
Hospital - I have sent a number emails in relation to Freedom of
Information requests and the Coroners Court to NHS staff which I believe
work for, or at, the Hospital.
I expect that any search for emails between Council and Hospital will turn
up hundreds, if not thousands of emails over the last year. The search
required for your current request would also include anything such as an
officer emailing their doctor over a personal matter, or a member of
Hospital staff challenging a Penalty Charge Notice for a parking offence.
We are required to read through this information, and therefore I estimate
that we will far exceed the appropriate limit in attempting to comply.
Furthermore, although it does not count towards the appropriate limit,
almost every document would require personal information to be removed and
this is a very time consuming task.
If you were to narrow your request we may be able to comply. For example,
if your interest is in the proposed closure of the A&E, you could limit
your request to correspondence between the Council's Communications team
(press office), or other officers likely to have been involved, and the
hospital. Or, you could request correspondence on a specific subject.

I will not be able to take this matter further without this extra
information from you. Please let me know by 07/05/2013. If I do not hear
from you within the timeframe provided, I shall take it that you do not
wish to pursue this request and will consider the request closed.

If you need assistance, please contact me on 020 8753 2532 or
[email address]. Please remember to quote our reference number:
530531 in any future communications.

Yours sincerely
