Charging Private Hospitals to use NHS MDTs
Dear Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust,
I am researching the use of NHS multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDTs) for patients being treated as either NHS or private patients at nearby private hospitals. Please provide the following information.
1. Has the authority ever audited the number of patients being discussed at MDT meetings who were having treatment (surgery, radiotherapy and or chemotherapy or system therapy) at private hospitals.
2. If so, please provide the number of patient being treated at private hospitals during the audit period, as well as the total number of patients discussed in your MDTs during the same period.
3. Does the authority make a charge to private hospitals/ clinics when their patient’s are discussed at one of your MDTs?
4. If so, how much revenue was raised through this during each of the past three financial years
5. If charges are made, are these on a per case basis, or an annual fee linked to total volumes.
Yours faithfully,
Kate Brown

Dear Requestor,
Apologies for the late reply. Please note that we find the request to be very generic; would it be possible to narrow down the request and clarify which specific services are you interested in? For example, our Trust does not provide radiotherapy and or chemotherapy or system therapy . For more information about our services, please follow this link: https://www.rnoh.nhs.uk/services.
