Charges and fees associated with compensation payouts for wrongful convictions in England & Wales

The request was successful.

Dear Ministry of Justice,

I would appreciate if under the FOI Act you could provide me with details of the following:

- The overall number and cost of wrongful conviction compensation payouts, between 2010 and the most recent date available, broken down by year if possible.

- The amount charged to wrongfully convicted people and therefore taken away from compensation payouts for living expenses / bed and board / board and lodgings or their equivalent, between 2010 and the most recent date available, broken down by year if possible.

- A summary of all other fees that may be deducted from compensation payouts, and what these cover

I am looking for figures for England & Wales.

Yours faithfully,
Henrietta Taylor

Dear Ministry of Justice,

If possible, could you please clarify why in 2017/18, there were 0 cases that met the section 133 test, but £100,000 was paid in compensation? Would this be compensation for someone who made an application in a previous year?

Yours faithfully,

Henrietta Taylor
