Channel Tunnel Security Order 1994 Restricted Zones (Defunct)

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Transport,

Further to my request of 22 June 2018 (Channel Tunnel Security Order 1994 Restricted Zones, your reference P0016200), I would like to request a list of defunct restricted zones (Zones) under the Channel Tunnel Security Order 1994 (The Order). That is, areas which where once designated as "restricted zones" under The Order, but that are no longer designated as such. Please would you also provide for each Zone the date of initial designation and final dedesignation (as well as any intermediate redesignations and dedesignations as appropriate).

My intention is that a "restricted zone" encompasses the common name of the Zone, as well as a full definition of the Zone (including maps where they constituted a component of the definition of the Zone). If the area defined by a Zone has changed over time, please would you treat each change to the definition as if it were a designation in its own right.

Please also provide a count of the current restricted zones that are in force.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Cox

Department for Transport

Dear Deepak Patel,

Thank you for your response on the behalf of the Department for Transport regarding my request for information about defunct restricted zones under the Channel Tunnel (Security) Order 1994. (F0017541).

As you may be aware, I have appealed to the First Tier Tribunal regarding the Information Commissioner's decision notice FS50800204, relating to my previous information request with reference P0016200. As such, although I disagree with the department's rejection notice in this request I do not presently intend to request an internal review of this refusal, pending the successful resolution of the appeal in my favour. As such proceedings may continue for a lengthy period I would appreciate it if you could confirm that you will accept a late request for internal review if the appeal in fact resolves to such an outcome.

Nonetheless, following from the information released so far would you please provide me the purpose behind the designation of the defunct restricted zone at Euston, as well as the reason for its eventual revocation.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Cox

Dear Mr Cox,

Re: your email of the 31st July I have contacted the policy team and they
have provided the following additional information regarding the former
restricted zone at Euston:

'The former restricted zone at Euston station related to a business
premises which was used in connection with the operation of the Channel
Tunnel and subsequently moved locations. Its designation as a restricted
zone was therefore revoked.'

I'm afraid it will not be possible to accept a request for an internal
review outside of the 2 month period but following conclusion of the
Tribunal case you could of course submit a fresh request and we would
consider all the circumstances at the time including the decision of the
Tribunal.
