Changes to the fire and rescue service since 2015

The request was successful.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my enquiry as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you would contact me as I understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.

I would like to know how the fire and rescue service has changed since 2015.

As such, I would like to know the number of fire stations operated by the fire and rescue service in the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

I would also like a list of the fire stations which closed down each year and a list of the fire stations which opened each year in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Finally, I would like to know the number of full-time and part-time staff employed by the fire and rescue service in each of the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

I understand that under the Act, I should be entitled to a response within 20 working days. I would be grateful if you would confirm in writing that you have received this request.
I would really appreciate your help with this request – I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Ramzy Alwakeel

Dear Ramzy Alwakeel ,

Thank you for your enquiry reference FOI/493.  In order to try and
identify and locate the information that you have asked for the Council
reasonably requires some clarification of your request. I will need this
information before we can take this matter further.

In particular, please you could clarify what you mean by 'part-time
staff'. Do you refer to our retained firefighters or to wholetime staff
who do not provide cover for a full working week (i.e. less than 42
hours). Furthermore, if you would like to know about both, would you like
us to keep these two groups separate?

Please send your clarification by responding to this email. Please do not
amend the Subject line.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch. However the force defines full-time and part-time staff is fine, as long as the same method is applied to each year.

Yours sincerely,

Ramzy Alwakeel

Dear Ramzy Alwakeel,

Our Ref: FOI/493

On 17/01/2020 you made the following request for information, which has
been dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

The number of stations operated, opened and closed from 2015 to 2019 and
the number full time and part time staff employed each year.

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
confirm that this Authority holds some data relevant to your request.

The Response to your request is as follows:

 1. Number of Fires station operated by WSFRS and openings and closures:
We operate 25 Fire Stations, of which one is a Technical Rescue Unit
and a training centre. This number has been consistent from 2015
onwards, with no openings or closures of stations.
 2. Number of Full-Time and Part-Time Staff: The whole-time figures
include all roles from Firefighter - Principle Officer. The retained
figures include all of our retained roles from Firefighter - Watch
Manager. It is important to note that these are 'actual' staff figures
and fluctuate depending on recruitment / retention. These figures have
been taken as of the 31st December of each requested year.
