2- Has the employer of the Chief Fire Officer placed any limitation on the type and amount of secondary employment the current post holder can undertake.
2- What hours is the Chief Fire Officer permitted to be undertaking secondary employment outside her County Council responsibilities
3 - Are all officers of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service permitted to undertake secondary employment
4- Are all officers (including Chief Officers) of other County Council Departments permitted to undertake secondary employment, if so how many other Chief Officers undertake approved secondary employment.

On 25/09/2023 you made the following request for information, which has
been dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Secondary Employment

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
confirm that this Authority holds data relevant to your request.

The Response to your request is as follows:

1 Has the secondary employment undertaken by the Chief Fire Office been
approved by the Fire and Rescue Authority.
The Chief Fire Officer has approval from the County Council to undertake
activities in their own time in connection with promotional work and
public speaking related to their activities/publications.
 
2 Has the employer of the Chief Fire Officer placed any limitation on the
type and amount of secondary employment the current post holder can
undertake.
This is answered in the response to question 1.

3 What hours is the Chief Fire Officer permitted to be undertaking
secondary employment outside her County Council responsibilities.
The permitted activities are restricted to the officer’s periods of leave
and in their own time.

4 Are all officers of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service permitted to
undertake secondary employment.
All officers of West Sussex Fire Rescue Service (WSFRS) may seek
permission to undertake secondary employment provided it does not conflict
with the interests of their employer or their employment responsibilities.
This is in line with the WSFRS Secondary Employment Policy and Procedure.

5 Are all officers (including Chief Officers) of other County Council
Departments permitted to undertake secondary employment, if so how many
other Chief Officers undertake approved secondary employment.
All officers (including Chief Officers) may seek permission from their
line manager to undertake secondary employment provided it meets the
conditions within their contract. Currently no other chief officers have
sought such permission.
