CCTV cameras on allotments
Dear Torfaen County Borough Council,
I would like to make a Freedom of Information Request with regards to the following :-
1. Of the 41 allotments managed by the relevant Allotments Associations how many have CCTV cameras erected?
2. Who erected the CCTV cameras in the allotments which are council owned land?
3. Who maintains the cameras?
4. Who is responsible for the monitoring of the cameras and what they are actually viewing/recording?

Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am now in a position to respond to
your questions as follows:
1. Of the 41 allotments managed by the relevant Allotments Associations
how many have CCTV cameras erected?
Cwmbran South Allotment Association – security cameras on 14 of 21 sites
Eastern Valleys Allotment Association – no security cameras on any sites
in this area.
2. Who erected the CCTV cameras in the allotments which are council owned
land?
CSAA - installed by site committee members on the individual sites.
EVAA – N/A
3. Who maintains the cameras?
CSAA - monitored by the allotment site secretaries.
EVAA – N/A
4. Who is responsible for the monitoring of the cameras and what they are
actually viewing/recording?
CSAA - situated only on access points to allotment sites or vulnerable
areas within sites.
EVAA – N/A

Further to your e-mail below, requesting information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, I am now in a position to respond to your questions
as follows:
How many people have access and are able to view the LIVE and RECORDED
images? The members of site committee. Max 3 people – treasurer, chairman
and secretary
Who are the people that have access and are able to view the LIVE and
RECORDED images? As above
Where are the RECORDED images kept On a device set to the camera feed and
for how long? * 7 days then re-recorded over.
What happens to the RECORDED images? Data will only be accessed if there
is a break-in/incident on site and will be deleted following forwarding to
relevant authorities ie police, local authority
How do members of the public access these images? No members of the public
will have direct access to recordings or images. Individuals have the
right to request access to their own personal information, further
explanation is available on the ICO website via the following link:

The data is only accessed should there be a break-in on a site and this
would be via a site committee member. We don’t access live or make a point
of that as it holds no interest for us. The data is accessed by connecting
to the camera. Any data is not for public use.
*Please note, the Allotment Site Committee are their own data controller
and therefore we have provided information available to us.
