CCTV Cameras and Associated Equipment in Skipton
Dear Skipton Business Improvement District,
Please could you disclose the following?
1. The full specifications and model details of each CCTV camera in operation in Skipton (if you are not responsible for them I would be grateful to know who is).
2. Whether any of these cameras feature APNR (Automatic Plate Number Recognition) and if any do the locations of the ones that do.
3. The full specifications and model details of the other equipment affixed to the lamp posts with the cameras (some of them appear to be routers if that helps) and the purpose of this additional equipment.
Thank you
Yours faithfully,
Alan Iveson
Hi Alan
Please can I ask why you are requesting this information? We are not a public body so do not have to reply to FOI requests but I will try and help if I understand why you need the information.
Kind Regards
Sarah

Dear Sarah,
The reason I'm wanting to know is most specifically around the 15 minute cities/20 minute neighbourhoods/etc schemes that are being pushed internationally and also the Internet of Things and 5G.
After a brief look I've noticed the cameras (of the ones I found) seem to be mainly pointed at roads where I'd expect a reasonable amount of traffic and which are key points in the town's road system. It may be that now they are just functioning as CCTV, but I am interested to know their current purpose and any future plans for their use and what their capabilities are such as if they can do APNR?
I'm also desiring to know what sorts of frequencies the devices which look to be routers (or at least some sort of networking equipment) on the lamp posts might be emitting.
Yours sincerely,
Alan Iveson
HI Alan
Thanks for the clarification.
The cameras are purely a crime prevention measure and are not ANPR, the locations were chosen to ensure the majority of the town centre is monitored to support businesses and reduce business crime, and to allow residents to feel safer in the town centre. They are also capable of footfall monitoring but we do not use that function and do not plan to.
I will have to speak to the company who supplied the hardware in regards to your other question.
Kind Regards
Sarah
