CAZ Taxi Hardship Mitigation Funding

The request was successful.

Dear Birmingham City Council,

When the Clean Air Zone was announced for Birmingham it was recognised that some sectors would be severely impacted. One of these key sectors is the hackney carriage trade.

I would like to know how much of the funding awarded to Birmingham City Council by central government specifically to assist it's hackney carriage drivers has been issued in the form of grants, ideally in detail of quantity of money, percentage of qualifying drivers assisted and by type of award.

Given that it appears that this ear-marked money has not been issued by the council despite having received it several years ago, is there a danger that it will have to be returned unused unless the grant scheme uptake is not substantially accelerated.

I would also like to know what impact the pandemic has had on the number of registered hackney carriage drivers and CAZ-compliant vehicles.

Yours faithfully,
Noel Lock
