Dear Her Majesty's Prison & Probation Service,

I am writing to make a request for the following information:

1. How many female prisoners in the UK are designated Category A;
2. Which prisons they are located in;
3. What documents or protocols exist to designate a prison as suitable for Category A prisoners. HMP Bronzefield, for example, receives Category A prisoners but is not a "high security" prison.

Yours faithfully,

Sarah McCulloch
