Carbon literacy training for senior councillors and staff
Dear Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council,
Please treat this as a Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations request.
I would like information about your council’s carbon literacy training in relation to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards. This information may be held by the HR department or other departments that organise staff training.
In particular, please supply me with information relating to the following questions:
a. Have all senior management received carbon literacy training or equivalent since 1st January 2019? Please state the type of training.
b. Have all current councillors in the cabinet or committee chairs received carbon literacy training or equivalent since being elected? Please state the type of training.
This training could be from the Carbon Literacy Organisation or another organisation, university or in-house. We want to know the number of people who have attended the training. We don’t need to know the number of staff that have received a certificate of completion or attendance.

Dear Applicant,
Please consider this as our formal response to your information request which
was logged under the above reference number and treated as a request made under
the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004.
I would like information about your council’s carbon literacy training in
relation to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards. This
information may be held by the HR department or other departments that organise
staff training.
In particular, please supply me with information relating to the following
questions:
a. Have all senior management received carbon literacy training or equivalent
since 1st January 2019? Please state the type of training.
- All the members of the Corporate Leadership Team have undertaken Carbon
Literacy training.
- Stockport Homes leadership team have undergone My Planet and Me training
(internal Stockport Homes training accredited to carbon literacy standard).
Board members will also undergo training. Training is currently part of all new
starter’s induction to Stockport Homes Group.
b. Have all current councillors in the cabinet or committee chairs received
carbon literacy training or equivalent since being elected? Please state the
type of training.
This training could be from the Carbon Literacy Organisation or another
organisation, university or in-house. We want to know the number of people who
have attended the training. We don’t need to know the number of staff that have
received a certificate of completion or attendance.
- Climate change induction training is now available to all Councillors
following May 2023 election. A newly refreshed Carbon Literacy training course
is also available to all Councillors.
Documents held by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council may fall under the
Re-Use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015. If you receive a Council
document and you wish to use it for a new purpose, please identify the document
in question and describe how you intend to re-use it. We will aim to respond to
any re-use request within 20 working days.
