We refer to your email received on  23 September 2024 which contained a
request for information as set out in italics below.  Firstly, please
accept our apologies for the delay in responding to you. 
Following consideration of your request, in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, I respond to each point as follows:

In respect of care homes managed by the council or subcontracted to
private firms, what at the total capacity in terms of number of
residential beds over all care homes. Please include within the figure the
number of dementia places along with non-dementia beds

956 beds in total

Please indicate the average occupancy rate of the care homes in aggregate
split by whether the homes are directly managed by the council or whether
the service provision is contracted out and provide any supporting
rationale for any differences if known.

LA Homes Occupancy   94%
Independent Homes Occupancy 94%

Please also state whether in the last 12 months the Council has turned
away any potential care home residents from any directly managed homes and
the most common reasons why this might be the case, eg lack of space, lack
of staff, lack of equipment etc.   

The Council does not hold the requested information. 

In respect of future demand has the council any modelling to determine
whether the demand for beds will INCREASE / DECREASE in the future.  Here
I am looking for a statement that the council expect it to Increase or
Decrease along with any estimates on percentage increases/decreases if
available and any rationale if the council holds it.

Linked to an ageing population and increasing dementia rates, the Council
would expect the demand for beds with those with more complex needs (e.g.
Nursing and EMI) to INCREASE. However, in line with the Social Services
and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014, the Council must focus on early help and
preventative services, which will most likely mitigate the potential
increase.
