Can you clarify the caring role used for calculating National Insurance contributions regarding pensions?

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Someone who cares for sick or elderly or children can they claim credits on their national insurance contributions while caring for the above?

For example a woman has a child in 1978, then has a further child in 1994 can she claim national insurance credits during this time?

Another example: A woman in her 60's caring for an elderly relative can she claim national insurance credits?

A woman caring for a disabled child/youth/adult can she claim national insurance credits throughout the role of caring?

Yours faithfully,

Trudy Baddams
