Kent County Council

Dear S Holdsworth

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) 2000. I am pleased to provide the response below:

Once an assessment has been reached, parents who are not happy that the
assessment decision is right can pursue a grammar school place by naming a
grammar school/schools among their preferences and taking their case to a
statutory Independent Appeal Panel. This is explained when the results are
sent out, and on our website using the following link:
[1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-chi...

Head Teacher Appeal panels bring a second scrutiny to assessments reached
on score alone, but once they have completed their work and the results
need to go out in time for parents to apply for their preferred schools.
About 50% of the cases referred to Head Teacher Appeal panels result in a
changed assessment.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[2]http://www.kent.gov.uk/about-the-council...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/17/807.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner’s website [3]http://www.ico.org.uk/concerns

Yours sincerely
