Can banks create money?
Dear Bank of England,
I am writing to file a freedom of information request.
On March 14th, 2014, the bank of England published a report called "Money creation in the modern economy."
Please answer the following questions about the report.
1 The report says, "Commercial banks create money, in the form of bank deposits, by making new loans." is this still the case in 2023?
2 The report said, "commercial banks made 97% of broad money in circulation in 2014. How much was it in 2022?
3 Can the bank of England create money without using quantitative easing?
4 Can His majesty's treasury create money independently of the bank of England?
