CAFCASS Board Appointments (4)

Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments did not have the information requested.

Dear Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments,

I have previously made requests for information on the CAFCASS board appointments firstly from CAFCASS (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/b...) and secondly from the Department for Eduction(https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c...) and both bodies have stated that the information is not held by themselves.

Under the Freedom of Information act and the general principles of the right to know I request the following information:-

1. I request a breakdown by year since 2001 of the number of ex or current CAFCASS service users who have applied for CAFCASS board vacancies and the number of ex or current CAFCASS service users who have been interviewed for CAFCASS board vacancies.

2. If the above information is not held by yourselves as your body is in effect the overseer of public appointments and you state in the mission statement on your website that you oversee a fair, open and transparent process. I request the name of the office that does hold the information requested.

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Maskery

OCPA - Cabinet Office [Restricted], Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments

Dear Mr Maskery

Thank you for your below request under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Commissioner for Public Appointments and his office do not hold information on the number of ex or current CAFCASS service users who have applied for CAFCASS board vacancies and the number of ex or current CAFCASS service users who have been interviewed for CAFCASS board vacancies.

It may help you to know that the Commissioner only regulates public appointments within his remit and does not administer those public appointment processes himself. We therefore do not hold details of who has applied or been interviewed for a public appointment and their background. The only exception to this is in relation to those appointment processes chaired by a Public Appointments Assessor where the final panel report detailing the outcome of the appointment process contains details on the employment background of candidates shortlisted for interview; these reports would not include any information about whether a candidate had been or was currently a CAFCASS service user.

The Department for Education is responsible for making appointments to the Board of CAFCASS and therefore you may want to contact them. However, I suspect their records of who had applied for CAFCASS board roles would only cover a candidate's employment background as opposed to whether they were or had been a CAFCASS service user.

I'm sorry we could not have been of more help. If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request or wish to request an internal review, you should write to:

Clare Salters
Chief Executive
Civil Service Commission

e-mail: [OCPA request email]

You should note that we will not normally accept an application for internal review if it is received more than two months after the date that the reply was issued.
If you are not content with the outcome of your internal review, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the Civil Service Commission. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
