The request was successful.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

I am making this request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I am aware that the Cadet Forces Medal is awarded to Cadet Force Adult Volunteers on the completion of 12-years reckonable and satisfactory service.

I am also aware that the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal is awarded to Reservists for 10-years reckonable and satisfactory service in the Reserve Forces.

Please send me copies of Ministry of Defence produced documents relating to changes or proposed changes to the awarding criteria of either of these medals since 2005. This includes all documents and emails produced by Ministry of Defence Ministers, civil servants or representatives of the individual Services.

In accordance with Section 11 of the 2000 Act, I request that your response is delivered to me in electronic format, via the return email address associated with this request.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Jones

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Please can you confirm receipt of my Freedom of Information Act request 'Cadet Forces Medal and Volunteer Reserves Service Medal', which was submitted on 13 November 2010.

The response is now overdue, but the fact I haven't received an acknowledgement leaves me wondering whether you received my request in the first instance.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Jones

Dear DCDS PERS-SEC-FOI MAILBOX (MULTIUSER),

I am heartened to hear that the MOD is collating a response to my request, but the fact remains it is now much later than the 20 working days required by the Act.

Please indicate how much longer I will have to wait for a response.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Jones

Peter, you may also be aware that the MoD recently carried out a review for all outstanding medal grievances and a draft report has partially been released.

In explicable the MoD decided to omit any review of long service medals, including the Cadet and VRSM. You will also no doubt be aware that regulars are required to complete 15 years before being considered for an LSGC and officers are excluded altogether.

There is absolutely no doubt that the area of long service has much disparity, especially in the context of the 'one' army. It is something that should be reviewed properly in line with the government’s transparency agenda, and common and equal qualification criteria established for all.

Dear DCDS PERS-SEC-FOI MAILBOX (MULTIUSER),

As it has taken a year for your Department to provide a response I do not mind waiting a while longer for you to scan the documents. I am confident your Department will have access to the most efficient of scanning technology.

As I mentioned earlier Section 11 of the 2000 Act allows the applicant express a preference for the delivery format of the response, which the public body should make every effort to comply with.

My preference for an electronic response, delivered to the return email address associated with this request, still stands.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Jones
