Your request
Does the local authority provide dedicated support for the council's cabinet, such as a cabinet support officer?
If so, please provide a table detailing: how many staff are provided; how many hours does each member of staff dedicate to this role; the salary bracket for each member of staff.
Our response
The Vale of Glamorgan Council does not provide dedicated support to the Council's Cabinet, but does employ a Cabinet and Committee Services Officer whose role is:
- To develop and manage the Council's Cabinet function including providing support and assistance to the Leader and Cabinet Members;
- To provide a confidential and efficient service to the Council and Council Committees safeguarding the reputation of the Council by ensuring statutory duties and Constitutional requirements are met.
This role is a permanent, non-political standard 37 hours per week contract. The role works as part of Democratic Services and also assists with advice / guidance and support for other meetings listed on the Council's Schedule of Meetings such as Full Council, Planning, Statutory and Public Protection Licensing Committees, Senior Management Appointment Committee, School Appeals and the Airport Consultative Committee but not any of the Scrutiny Committees.
The Cabinet and Committee Services Officer is also supported with some aspects of the Cabinet functions by a Members and Committee Services Assistant for matters relating to the Cabinet report cycle and assistance with the software platform for hybrid meetings for not only Cabinet meetings but other Council Committee meetings as well. This position also supports the Mayoral function and Members and Committee services roles.
The current salary for each position for 23/24 is detailed below:
Cabinet and Committee Services Officer
Gross Pay 38,223
Members and Committee Services Assistant
Gross Pay 26,421
