I have been asked for  clarification:

“Is the information  for children in mainstream or special schools? e.g.
we have a special school with  over 70% of the population with ASD. All
the children who attend this school  have access to classroom assistants
as do children with ASD in our other special schools. .”

Q1 How many children with a diagnosis of Autism/ASD that attend a school
within BELB control, receive one-to-one help/assistance from a classroom
assistant to help meet their needs at school?

According to the information we hold, there are 482 pupils supported by
adult assistants (SEN) at BELB mainstream schools*, who have a primary or
additional special educational need recorded as Aspergers or Autism.

Q2.How many children with a diagnosis of Autism/ASD that attend a school
within BELB control, DO NOT receive one-to-one help/assistance from a
classroom assistant to help meet their needs at school?

There are 239 pupils who attend BELB mainstream schools whose primary or
additional special educational need is recorded as Aspergers or Autism who
are not supported by adult assistants (SEN) funded by the board.  The
board would not be aware of those funded by the schools to help meet the
needs of pupils with ASD in mainstream schools.

*These figures do not include DE funded schools i.e. Voluntary
Grammar/Preparatory and integrated schools within the BELB area.  This is
because we do not fund these sectors. We are responsible for the
“controlled sector”. It would be necessary for you to contact individual
schools in the other education sectors. Contact details are published on
our web site. [1]http://www.belb.org.uk/schools.asp
