C02 emissions - West Kirby Flood Alleviation Project

The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

In relation to the West Kirby Flood Alleviation Project,

How many tonnes of concrete are expected to have been used once it is complete?

What are the projections for the amount of carbon dioxide produced from the use of the concrete?

How will Wirral Council offset any emissions created as a result of the project, including that emitted from the use of construction materials?

Yours faithfully,

Ed Barnes

InfoMgr, FinDMT,

Dear Mr Barnes

In relation to the West Kirby Flood Alleviation Project, we can respond to
your questions as follows:

How many tonnes of concrete are expected to have been used once it is
complete?

13,380t in-situ concrete plus 1605t of pre-cast concrete units

What are the projections for the amount of carbon dioxide produced from
the use of the concrete?

1,509t CO[2 ]eq. in-situ concrete plus 177 CO[2 ]eq. pre-cast units

How will Wirral Council offset any emissions created as a result of the
project, including that emitted from the use of construction materials?

The West Kirby Flood Alleviation Contract was procured through the
Environment Agency’s Collaborative Delivery Framework and as such the
utilised  contract adhered to the conditions of that Framework. This
included use of the Environment Agency’s Minimum Technical Requirements
which seek to minimise carbon outputs on construction schemes.

Yours sincerely
