Dear Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council,

I would like to request information about your business grants. What business grants do you offer to local start-ups/small businesses? What is the allowance per business in 2019 and what will be the allowance in 2020?

Also, if possible, do you have information about how much you have given (grants) to local businesses in the past 5 years in your area?

Yours faithfully,

Hana Bednarova

Dear Ms Bednarova,

Freedom of Information Request RFI-0391-19

Further to your request for information about Business Grants, I can tell
you the following:

1. I would like to request information about your business grants. What
business grants do you offer to local start-ups / small businesses? What
is the allowance per business in 2019 and what will be the allowance in
2020?

2. Also, if possible, do you have information about how much you have
given (grants) to local businesses in the past 5 years in your area?

I can confirm that the council holds information that falls within the
description specified in your request, it is estimated that the cost of
complying with the request would exceed the appropriate limit specified in
the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and
Fees) Regulations 2004. For the council, this limit is currently set at
£450. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending 18 hours
in determining whether the council holds the information and then
locating, retrieving and extracting the information.

The information you have requested is held in multiple areas within the
Council and with 3rd party organisations, there is no reportable function
to pull all of the details together to respond. A manual search of
all financial transactions would be required which would take well in
excess of the permitted 18 hour timeframe for responding to FOI requests.
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 sets out that were the
council considers that the appropriate limit is likely to be exceeded it
is not obliged to respond to the request. As a result, we will not be
processing your request further as it is refused.

I would however like to inform you that on of our teams who deal with some
council funding have enquired whether it would be more beneficial for you
to meet to have a more rounded discussion about the support available to
businesses.

If this would be something you are interested you can contact them on the
