Dear Mr Ereira

Thank you for contacting us regarding bus stopping procedures. Your
request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
If you are not satisfied with this response, please read the help-sheet
below, entitled ‘Your Right to Appeal’.

You asked for “any internal correspondence regarding the proposed
re-classification of ‘compulsory’ stops to ‘request’.”

TfL has no proposals to reclassify 'compulsory' bus stops to 'request' bus
stops. However there are proposals to consolidate the different types of
stops to one design, based on the existing compulsory stop. This is to
reflect the current practice which has evolved among customers over the
years. Customers will now generally indicate to the driver whether they
wish to board or alight from a bus. However the onus remains with the
driver and they should only pass a bus stop without stopping when they are
clear that no one wishes to board or alight, drivers have been advised
accordingly. I attach the internal correspondence that we have on this
subject.

The attached correspondence consists of a document containing 10 emails,
with personal contact details blanked out in order to comply with the Data
Protection Act. Each email is numbered and separated by a heading
indicating its number and whether it has any attachments. Each
attachment is attached on a separate file, and the file name indicates
which email it is attached to. You will notice that some emails have
duplicate attachments, and that is also indicated on the file name.

Thank you once again for your enquiry. I trust this answers your
questions. If I can be of any further help, please feel free to contact
me.

Yours sincerely

Patricia Mitchell
