Bus contracts
Dear Newcastle upon Tyne City Council,
Please could you provide information on how the contract between NCC and Arriva Buses is managed and monitored?
Specifically I am keen to understand how NCC monitor that Arriva a providing the safe service at a sensible speed, i.e. within the designated speed limit?
Yours faithfully,
Ian McEwan

Dear Mr McEwan,
Thank you for your email regarding bus contracts.
At present, Newcastle City Council do not have any contracts with Arriva for the provision of public bus services.
Nexus are the Passenger Transport Executive for the region and are so are likely to have contracts in place with Arriva. They will be able to advise you on their monitoring procedures. You can find their contact details at this link - https://www.nexus.org.uk/contactus. If you have a specific service or location in mind that your concerns refer to, please let me know and I will be able to point you in the right direction for more information.
It is worth noting however that the speed of vehicles is a moving traffic offence and as such is not enforceable by the Local Authority. This can only be enforced by the Police.
Thank you
Lauren
