Dear Sabir Esa

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

In response to your request for information received at this office on
28^th December 2017, please see Bolton Councils response below for part of
your request, part is not held and part we require clarification.

You requested:

I would like the information to cover the last five years and be broken
down by year for residents and non-residents:

I would like to know the cost of the council’s fees and charges for
burials over this period broken down by religious beliefs ( Muslims,
Christians, Jewish Hindu etc).

I would like to know how much revenue the council has raised from burial
charges over this period, broken down by religious believes ( Muslims,
Christians, Jewish Hindu etc) along with actual cost to the council.

I would like to know the projected cost for the periods 2018-2019 and
2020-2021

Answer:

I would like to know the cost of the council’s fees and charges for
burials over this period broken down by religious beliefs ( Muslims,
Christians, Jewish Hindu etc).

Please see attached documents for the fees charges for burials for the
last 5 financial years April-March (prices usually increase on 1^st
April). We do not charge any extra fees for non-residents of the Borough
of Bolton and therefore all charges are the same for residents and
non-residents.

I can confirm there have been no Hindu or Jewish burials in the last five
years. Please see below the numbers for Muslim burials.

2017 97 out of a total number of burials of 486

2016 94 of 474

2015 84 of 512

2014 83 of 498

2013 8 of 461

I would like to know how much revenue the council has raised from burial
charges over this period, broken down by religious beliefs ( Muslims,
Christians, Jewish Hindu etc) along with actual cost to the council.

Bereavement Services deliver a joint burial/cremation service, sharing
staff and resources. So it is not possible to a separate costs of
delivering burials alone and therefore the information you have requested
is not held.

Clarification Required

I would like to know the projected cost for the periods 2018-2019 and
2020-2021

Please specify what you mean by “projected cost for period 2018/19 to
2020-21. Are you asking for projected costs of operating a burial service
or are you asking for the projected level of fees?  If you are referring
to fees and charges the Council’s general guidance for budgetary purposes
is an increase of 2% on fees and charges for 2018/19.  A decision setting
specific fees and charges for 2018/19 is taken by the Executive Member
during February and information is available via our website once the
report has been approved.

If no clarification is received 3 months from the date of this email we
will assume you have decided not to pursue your request and
