Dear Caroline Hanman

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry to Birmingham Safeguarding
Children Board seeking the below information appertaining to allegations
against persons in position of trust.  

1.        The procedure in place locally for parents to report concerns
about perceived bullying/victimisation (targeted at children and young
people) by professionals
2.        The number of cases investigated by the local SCB regarding
perceived bullying/victimisation of a child/children by professionals
during the period September 2009 to May 2013.

Although Local Safeguarding Children Boards are not public authorities for
the purposes of the freedom of information act 2000, the Birmingham
Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB) is committed to enhancing public
understanding of how effectively organisations work together to safeguard
and protect children and young people in Birmingham.

Procedural Guidance is available in Section 22 'Concerns about person in

The total number of cases referred to the Persons in Position of Trust
Team by year are as follows;

01/04/2009 to 31/03/2010 there were 399 referrals
01/04/2010 to 31/03/2011 there were 328 referrals
01/04/2011 to 31/03/2012 there were 538 referrals
01/04/2012 to 03/03/2013 there were 656 referrals

Dear Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board,

Thank you for the information you have provided in response to my FOIA request.

Whilst it would have been helpful to have had a further breakdown re the instances of perceived bullying and victimisation by professionals I nonetheless consider that the information you have provided indicates a willingness on the part of the Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board to be open and transparent (for which I thank you).

It is reassuring to feel that concerns raised about percieved bullying/victimisation by professionals will be taken seriously in Birmingham.
