Dear St.Helens Council,

Thank you for this. Unfortunately I think there has been a misunderstanding. I asked about elective home education where children are educated at home by parental choice but the reference to the "Tuition Service" and the sum quoted leads me to think that the information returned pertains to children whose education is arranged by the local authority.

Would it be possible to revert to the original question and get an answer for elective home education?

Yours sincerely,

Fiona Nicholson

Dear Contact Centre,

It would be a bit disappointing if this took 20 days as it is still the same original query.

Yours sincerely,

Fiona Nicholson

St.Helens Council, St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council

Thank you for the clarification in respect of your FOI request.

St Helens doesn't have a specific budget for elective home education.
School funding is provided to local authorities by the government through
the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG). The DSG is calculated according to the
number of pupils on roll at a local authority's educational
establishments. Pupils who are educated at home through parental
preference wouldn't be registered on any school roll and, therefore, a
local authority wouldn't receive any funding for such pupils. St Helens
will, of course, provide advice to parents on an ad hoc basis should they
have any questions in relation to home education.

Many thanks
