Buckinghamshire - Self-catering residents in residential care: remuneration

The request was successful.

Dear Buckinghamshire County Council,

Please supply any information you hold on the incidence of people living in residential care catering for themselves instead of eating the residential home's food.

Please indicate how the food is funded in such cases; and if such residents are prepayed or reimbursed by the home or the Council for this cost, how much they are given to pay for their food.

Yours faithfully,

Doug Paulley

Dear Mr Paulley

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

Thank you for contacting Buckinghamshire County Council. We apologise for the delay in replying.

Your request for information has now been considered and our response is as follows:

We do not believe we have anyone who caters for themselves in our homes for older people.

However, it must be true that some people may occasionally eat outside the service or perhaps eat something prepared by a family member - and the providers do not make any payments or fee adjustments for this.

If you have any further queries or concerns then please contact us.

If you have a complaint about the handling of your request then please use the Council's complaints procedure (at Stage 3) in the first instance. This is available at:

Dear Freedom of Information Mailbox,

Thankyou for the information.

You've restricted the information you've provided to homes you yourselves run and to older people. That restriction was not in my original request.

I am not just interested in Council run homes for older people. I am interested in homes for children, people with substance misuse issues, younger physically impaired, learning difficulties etc., both council run and in the second and third sectors.

In my experience, self catering is most likely to happen in residential care in the second and third sectors, which the council might be aware of through their case management or commissioning functions.

I am not happy that your late response has not answered these aspects; please could you reconsider and provide the information.

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

Doug Paulley

Dear Mr Paulley

Thank you for your further query.

We do not run directly provided BCC homes - they have all been externalised. We consulted with our main providers of residential and nursing care for older people and for adults with learning disabilities and they confirmed that this does not happen - as per the response we gave.

We can further confirm that we do not have any young people in this position (again this may be part of an independence programme, but certainly not every meal).

In summary, our response to your request is information not held.
