T Hyatt made this Freedom of Information request to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Richmond upon Thames Borough Council,

I would like to make a request for the following information regarding the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academy programmes.

1) Which schools and academies in your area are either undergoing redevelopment as a result of the BSF and Academy programmes or will do in the future, listing which are confirmed to be going ahead either currently or in the future and which are awaiting a review before they can be confirmed. If all BSF/Academy developments in your area have been cancelled due to the spending cuts, then this is all I need to be informed of and you can disregard the following requested details.

2) The start and completion dates for the building works on each school and academy, with attention paid to make sure that these are up-to-date as I understand that the estimated start and completion dates may well have changed since the BSF and Academy spending cuts in July/August.

3) The main building contractor and architect which you have awarded each school to. If this decision has not yet been made for certain schools, then the expected date when you plan to make your decision on this.

Yours faithfully,

Mr T Hyatt

Dear Mr T Hyatt,

Your request for information which was received on 16 December 2010 has
been considered. Please find below the information requested.

I would like to make a request for the following information
regarding the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academy
programmes.

1) Which schools and academies in your area are either undergoing
redevelopment as a result of the BSF and Academy programmes or will
do in the future, listing which are confirmed to be going ahead
either currently or in the future and which are awaiting a review
before they can be confirmed. If all BSF/Academy developments in
your area have been cancelled due to the spending cuts, then this
is all I need to be informed of and you can disregard the following
requested details.

There are 3 schools in Richmond which have converted to Academy status and
were originally approved for redevelopment: Hampton Academy, Twickenham
Academy and Richmond Park Academy. The redevelopment work at Hampton and
Twickenham Academies has been confirmed as going ahead. The work at
Richmond Park Academy is under review by the DfE.

2) The start and completion dates for the building works on each
school and academy, with attention paid to make sure that these are
up-to-date as I understand that the estimated start and completion
dates may well have changed since the BSF and Academy spending cuts
in July/August.

The estimated start dates are: April 2011 for Hampton Academy, June 2011
for Twickenham Academy. Final completion dates are estimated to be
September 2013 for Hampton Academy, December 2013 for Twickenham Academy.
Dates for Richmond Park Academy are unknown until the funding position is
confirmed.

3) The main building contractor and architect which you have
awarded each school to. If this decision has not yet been made for
certain schools, then the expected date when you plan to make your
decision on this.

The main building contractor we intend to award all work under this
programme to is JB Leadbitter, having undergone a competitive tender
exercise with Academies Framework contractors to appoint Leadbitter as the
preferred bidder. Leadbitter have appointed A Studio as the architect for
Hampton and Twickenham Academies.

Please note that the Authority will only be awarding one direct contract,
which will be with the contractor for the design and build contract. We
will not be awarding any client packages, and we will not be influencing
the choice of sub contractors or suppliers as this is purely the
contractor's decision.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Alternatively you can contact the Information Lawyer, Civic Centre, 44
York Street, Twickenham, TW1 3BZ. Tel: 020 8891 7948. E-mail:
