Freedom of Information Request - FOIA1308
Please find below our response to the Freedom of Information request you made to Coventry University in respect of BSc Geography results.
Could you please provide myself with an Excel spreadsheet with the following data/information from the last 2 admission cycles:
1) A Level grades (predicted)
2) A Level grades (achieved)
3) Whether an offer was made.
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) provides an exemption from a public authority’s obligation to comply with a request for information where the cost of compliance is estimated to exceed the appropriate limit. In relation to your request the relevant cost limit under the FOIA is £450 which equates to 18 hours. To collate the requested information would take in excess of 18 hours, we are limited within our database, in respect to the information it can extract regarding predicted vs achieved grades. In addition, some of the applications we receive would have little or no validation, which we normally validate as part of the normal application process. In order for us to provide the information requested, we would have to manually review all the applications received and then collate then in the requested form. We received approximately 400 applications for this course in the time period identified and utilising the manual validation process, we would need to check the data accuracy and cross reference with UCAS data, which we would also have to validate by comparing any application documents. We estimate this would take over 18 hours to complete. For that reason, although we hold this information we are exempted from providing it.
If you have any queries or concerns in regards to this matter then please do not hesitate to contact me via [Coventry University request email], however please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to request an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original request and should be addressed to: the Information Governance Unit, Coventry University, Portal House, 163 Union Street, Coventry, CV1 2PL or sent by e-mail to: [Coventry University request email].
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the internal review procedure provided by the University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, Telephone: 08456 30 60 60 or 01625 54 57 45, Email: [email address].
