Dear London School of Economics,

I would like to kindly request, under the Freedom of Information Act, the following figures for first year BSc Economics entry for uk applicants in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023:

(1) The number of students with offers that also took retakes for their A levels
(2) The number of students with offers that had mostly 7’s in all their GCSE
(3) The number of students with offers that had a 6 in specifically their maths GCSE
(4) The average score of the TMUA score of offer holders

If you could provide the information to the figures above I’d be very grateful.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Bendek

Dear Daniel,

Further to your recent FoI request, the Schools response is provided
below:

Q1: The school has to refuse the question relating to previous
qualifications under Section 12 where cost of compliance exceeds
appropriate limit. We have used this exemption because we do not hold the
data in the way that you have requested it and therefore to produce it in
the way requested would breach the cost limit.

Q2a: The number of students with offers that had mostly 7s in all
their GCSEs (incl. cases where number of 7s are equal highest with
another grade)* 24
Q2b: The number of students with offers that had mostly 7s in all
their GCSEs (where number of 7s is higher than all other grades)** 52
Q3a: The number of UK students with offers that had a 6 in
specifically their maths GCSE <5
Q3b: Including Bs (i.e., old GCSE gradings) <5
Q4: The average score of the TMUA score of offer holders (note: this
is only from 2023 - unable to find any TMUA data for BSc Economics
applicants prior to this)*** 5.76

This was the first year LSE used TMUA for BSc Economics so there will be
no data from previous years.

Dear GLPD.Info.Rights,

Thank you for your response. I apologise for my unclear request, as your response did not meet the answer I was expecting. I would be grateful if you could offer me guidance into how I could best reframe the request in order to obtain as much of the information as possible, while bringing it below the cost limit.

I would like to know if any undergraduate applicants for BSc economics with A-level retakes have received an offer during these cycles 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023. If there is successful applicants that also retook A-levels, please provide the number of these successful applicants of every specific year—not a cumulative figure of all years.

Yours sincerely,

Daniel Bendek
