Brucella suis
Dear UK Health Security Agency,
Please can you tell me:
1. Have any humans been diagnosed with Brucella suis in the UK during 2023 - 13.03.2024? If yes, how many?
2. Of those that have tested positive, how many were identified that were:
i) clinically unwell
ii) veterinary professionals/lay staff working within veterinary practices
iii) pregnant women
iv) children under 5 years
v) seniors (65years+)
vi) immunocompromised.
3. How many required:
i) antibiotic therapy
ii) hospitalisation
4. How many have died?
5 Have there been any incidents of Brucella suis in humans during 2023 - 13.03.2024? If so, how incidents have now closed and how many are still open?
6. Have you worked with Public Health Wales in investigating any of these incidents in their region? What about Public Health Scotland? What about NI Public Health?
7. What was the cause of each of these incidents? Options: UK dog / imported dog / imported pig meat and products / imported pigs / homegrown pigs / homegrown pig meat and products / UK wildlife / other imported meat products / other imported livestock / other (please state).
8. If it was a dog, what was thought to be the cause of the dog's infection?
