Brucella canis

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, UK Health Security Agency should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear UK Health Security Agency,

Please can you tell me:
1. How many individual Brucella canis positive cases have been diagnosed (in dogs) this year (2023) so far for the following countries:
- England
- Scotland
- Wales
- Northern Ireland

And,
of these, how many independent cases were identified (case = all BC+ dogs with a clear link between individual dogs testing positive e.g. siblings)?

2. For each of the countries, a) how many individual dogs were tested for Brucella canis at an UK based external laboratory (e.g. APHA)? and b) what % of these were positive?

3. How many cases of human brucellosis, derived from Canine Brucellosis, have been diagnosed in a UK-based citizen (any age) in each of the following years:
- 2020
- 2021
- 2022
- 2023 (include the date up to)

4. How many of these human cases required pharmaceutical treatment?

5. How many of these human cases required inpatient/hospitalisation as part of the treatment?

6. How many of these cases resulted in the death of the individual?

Thank you for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Buckley
