Dear Mr Dixon
I refer to your request dated 1st October 2024 under the Freedom of
Information Act asking to supply the following information:
1. Total number of CCTV cameras in public spaces (e.g., streets, parks,
car parks) operated by the council at any point during the 2023
calendar year.
Response:
The total number of CCTV cameras in public spaces has varied throughout
the 2023 calendar year due to projects such as ‘Transforming Cities Fund’
which resulted in the removal and adding of cameras. As such, we can
confirm that the average number of cameras on the system was 487 located
in public spaces. These cameras include Crime and Disorder Cameras,
Traffic Control Cameras and Fly-tipping Cameras.
2. Number of faulty or out-of-operation CCTV cameras: The number of CCTV
cameras in public spaces that were broken, faulty, or out of operation
for any period during the 2023 calendar year. Please provide the total
number of cameras affected and, if possible, the total duration (in
days) they were out of operation.
Response:
I can confirm that the information requested is not held by Bradford
Council and therefore, this response acts as a refusal notice under
section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information Act in accordance with section
1(1)(a) of the Act. This is because the cameras are repaired as soon as
they become faulty, and no records are kept regarding the duration of the
outage.
3. Expenditure on CCTV cameras: The total amount spent on installing and
maintaining CCTV cameras in public spaces during the 2023 calendar
year. If available, please break this down into installation and
maintenance costs.
Response:
I can confirm that the information requested is not held by Bradford
Council and therefore, this response acts as a refusal notice under
section 17(1) of the Freedom of Information Act in accordance with section
1(1)(a) of the Act. This is because there are several Council Departments
who utilize CCTV and, due to the number of projects that were ongoing
which affected CCTV, no single record of cost is held.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, if you are not
satisfied with the reply to your request, you can ask for an internal
review.
A request for an internal review must be submitted within 40 working days
in writing to the Corporate Information Governance Team, City of Bradford
Metropolitan District Council, City Hall, Centenary Square, Bradford, BD1
1HY or by emailing [1][Bradford City Council request email].
If you are still not satisfied with the outcome of the internal review you
have the right of appeal to the Information Commissioner who can be
contacted at:
