Brexit impact

Abdul Hai made this Freedom of Information request to Utility Regulator (Northern Ireland)

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by Utility Regulator (Northern Ireland).

Dear Utility Regulator (Northern Ireland),

Does the regulator have any documents on the impact of the unity sector in Northern Ireland from Brexit as it is different in many ways from Great Britain in for example the all Ireland electrify market?

Will there be any impact on consumers for example prices?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

Boyle, Adele, Utility Regulator (Northern Ireland)

Hello Abdul Hai,

Thank you for your email below. It has been forwarded to me as FOI
officer.

I would like to clarify your request:

-       When you say ‘unity’ do you mean ‘utility’ sector? We only
regulate electricity, gas and water. The other utilities (phone,
broadband, etc) are regulated by Ofcom.

-       When you say ‘all Ireland electrify market’ are you referring to
the all island single electricity market (SEM)?

When I receive your response I will begin to process your request.

Kind regards,

Adele

FOI officer

Dear Boyle, Adele,

Hi Adele I was only asking about what you regulate rather than the whole utility market.

Yes I am referring to the all island single electricity market (SEM)

Yours sincerely,

Abdul Hai

Dear Mr Hai

Thank you for your request below which we have considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I am writing to inform you that your request is being refused under Section 12 of the Act because compliance would exceed the appropriate cost limit.

However, if you are able to reform and/or re-focus your request, we may be able to provide you with relevant information for a lower, or no, fee. Specifically, you may want to consider resubmitting a request by refining the specifics of your request in relation to:

- Impact – specify the actual impact you are interested in (for example consumer, supplier, businesses, prices, etc).
- Utility sector – specify if this is electricity, gas or water.
- Brexit – what context of Brexit you are referring to (for example no deal).
- Timeframe – please provide a specific timeframe (for example, the latest document or documents dated within the last three months).

I would like to direct you to some publicly available information, in case this may be of interest to you.
