Breakdowns

The request was successful.

Dear North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

I am writing to request the following information under the freedom of information act.

In the months of October, November and December 2021, how many hours were ambulances unavailable as a direct result of a breakdown on shift. (By this I mean roadside breakdowns of double crewed ambulances that were staffed at the time therefore resulting in crew unavailability).

Yours faithfully,

Terry Flemming

Dear Mr Flemming,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. So that I can provide
you with the relevant information you have asked for I would be grateful
if you could please clarify the exact type of ambulance vehicle you would
like this data for?

As a trust we have various different types of vehicles that respond to
both emergency and non-emergency and also vehicles that are cars and may
only be staffed by one member of staff.

If you could please provide clarification and I will be happy to provide
to assist you further with this request.

Kind regards

Caroline Turner

Dear Mr Flemming,

In response to your Freedom of Information request please find below the
data for the number of hours frontline emergency ambulances were
unavailable as a direct result of a breakdown or maintenance issue during
a shift for the months of October, November and December 2021:

Lost unit time
Year Month
(in hours)
2021 October 595:78:00
2021 November 734:25:00
2021 December 711:02:00
2022 January 710:87:00

Please note that within this collective data, the time in which an
ambulance was unavailable on a shift can range from a few minutes through
to several hours. The reason why the ambulance was unavailable may be the
result of various different vehicle maintenance issues such as radio
connectivity issues, requiring a tyre change or change of light bulb
through to major mechanical breakdowns.

North West Ambulance Service has a large operational fleet of emergency
ambulances operating every day across the five counties of the North West
and we do have further vehicles available that frontline staff may be able
to transfer to if any technical issues arise with their allocated vehicle
during their shift.

I hope this information is of assistance and would ask that if you intend
to use this information in a future media article, we are given the
opportunity to provide a qualifying comment.

Kind regards

Caroline Turner
